Entirely hand-knotted and crafted from one of the world's finest wools, the Scarlet rug by Draga & Aurel for Baxter is a valuable piece of textile art.
This exquisite rug, crafted from 100% Ghazni wool (Twill/Pois) and New Zealand wool (Natural Pois), showcases intricate workmanship and employs the ancient technique of hand-dyeing potdyeing to infuse the fabric with rich nuances and vibrant colour intensity.
The complex design of the rug requires the use of the talim, a fascinating chanted code that guides the weaver through each knot, ensuring precision and perfection in every detail.
The meticulous finishing process involves an initial shaving and hand-washing, followed by the skilled work of a specialist who uses scissors to carefully treat specific areas. This is done according to precise instructions to achieve a worn effect, resulting in each rug being unique and inimitable.
The side edges are produced with the style of an ancient rug and the selvedges are woven to create a vintage effect, that imparts an exclusive and timeless charm.
