Continuum D.163.7 Armchair by Molteni & C
The addition of Continuum armchair to the 2024 Collection is celebrated in the Molteni&C Heritage catalog. This masterpiece, designed by Gio Ponti in 1963, symbolizes the enduring partnership between Molteni&C, Bonacina 1889, and the pioneers within the Italian furniture industry. These companies take pride in preserving their traditional artisanal skills and strong roots in the region.
The Continuum, expertly crafted using rattan, showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and intricate weaving techniques. Inspired by organic shapes, the Continuum's design embodies a fluid and continuous brushstroke from headrest to armrest and takes inspiration from 1950s bergères found in hotels and cruise ships. Made entirely in Italy, this armchair is crafted with top-quality materials from the rattan family- manao and malacca, sourced from Indonesia's equatorial forests. Skilled artisans shape the manao cane for the structure and backrest, with each armchair requiring over 200 hours of meticulous craftsmanship. The seat, crafted from canes with a smaller diameter, is affixed to the structure using special flat rattan cane.
